Also past due is the "A Religious Society" questions. It is available on D2L and you use the textbook in order to answer it. Paper copies are also available in class. If you have been away this sheet needs to be handed in by Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Today we worked on The Feudal System Webquest.  In this webquest, you choose one topic to research (Peasent, Knight, Lord... etc). Using the guiding questions, you research all about the life of your person. You then create a pop up visual about this person and their life in the Middle Ages. The complete document with all instructions has been shared with you on Google Docs. This is a three day project due Tuesday, February 9. You will also have tomorrow and Monday to work on this. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you work on this over the weekend.

Hello all, firstly I know that many of you are sick and have been for the last few days. I have tried to have the class do work that you could complete independently at home. I unaderstand that it is very difficult to do school work while sick. As you begin to feel better, you will be expected to complete and hand in any missed work in a timely fashion.  Feel better soon!

Feudal System Model (Available on D2L under content) -- For each level of the feudal system, write down what that group's job was in society and what their commitment to the church was.  Glue these in your visual journal. Use pages 18-23 in the textbook and the powerpoint on D2L to help complete this work.

Today we did a Haiku Challenge! Bring in your Haiku tomorrow for our secret ballot judging!

Students have brought home a letter in order to watch The Last Samurai at school on Thursday and Friday. Please read and either return to view the movie or do not return and your child will not view it.

Today we handed back some marked work and started to work on Chapter 14 (Japan in Isolationism). We had a class discussion and did some critical thinking questions. We will continue this tomorrow.

Today we wrote Prediction PEC paragraphs. Aside from Writing for Understanding, these will also be marked on Listening for Understanding. I read a passage from the textbooks to students, explaining what was going on in Japan when the Portuguese started to come to Japan. Based on listening to the reading, students had to predict how the Shogun would respond to these changes. These were handed in in class time.

Students continued to work on their Short Story writing. We will learn how to input dialogue properly tomorrow and continue writing them.

Today we started to work on our Folktale writing. We planned our stories using a plot diagram. These plot diagrams must be completed by Thursday, November 26.

Today we continued to work on improving our paragraph writing by writing a second PEC paragraph. The first paragraphs were handed back and I provided feedback on them for you to use to help improve the next one. Today we answered the question, "Does equality lead to harmony in societ?" Using your survey data from last week as evidence, you were meant to take a stance on this question and create a paragraph with 3 pieces of evidence and explanation. We then shared our paragraphs with two people and had them peer edited. Our final PEC paragraph writing will happen on Wednesday, and this one will be for marks.

Today was the final day to work on the 3D Feudal Systems of Japan. They are due on Monday, but you will NOT have time to work on it in class.

Yesterday we did research around the Feudal System in Edo Japan. Today we worked on 3D Models of the feudal system. You will have tomorrow to work on your model and it will be due on Monday, November 23.

Today students worked on finishing their Lotus Diagrams and based on their picture and quote analysis, they chose three adjectives to describe life in Japan under the Shogun. From here, we reviewed proper paragraph format and learned how to write a PEC paragraph (Point, Explanation and Evidence, Conclusion). Students are expected to use their Lotus Diagram analysis and create a paragraph answering the question, "What was life like in Japanese Shogunate Society?"  There topic sentence should focus on their three adjectives and then the detail sentences should further explain each adjective with evidence that they saw in the quotes and pictures. The quotes and pictures on on D2L under content. A PEC paragraph writing frame is also on D2L under content. These paragraphs are due on Monday, November 16.

We then started a Lotus Diagram Activity.  We will continue this and do the paragraph portion of it on Thursday. Tomorrow, we miss HUM for the assembly and there is no school on Wednesday. Today the students in 802 took a vote in how to proceed in our work. The students chose to spend today and Wednesday finishing up the Folktale stations. All six stations will be due Monday, November 9. Students only have Wednesday remaining of in-class time to finish these. All station work can be found on D2L. Tomorrow we will have a special presentation from the Calgary Public Library. On Thursday and Friday we will continue our Japan unit.

We continued to work on the Character Analysis today. The Character Analysis is due Monday, September 21. This is to be completed in the visual journal. Instructions:
-Pick a fictional character
-Create 6 statements that you feel demonstrate their Worldview. For each statement, explain what the character says or does that makes you feel that that is their worldview.

We also looked at the Worldview element - Values today.
Tomorrow we will do a Current Events activity and with any extra time, you will work on your Character Analysis.
